About the Artist

Allan, a self-taught Canadian artist, specializes in work in soapstone, alabaster and serpentine. Allan uses a variety of unique tools and techniques and has developed many innovative applications that he still uses today to perfect his work. Inspired by what he sees in nature Allan continues to constantly evolve his talent. He has been commissioned to create pieces for collectors, large corporations, galleries and many others including a major sculpture restoration at the new St Joseph Seminary in Edmonton, AB. His work has found its way as far as Denmark, England, Africa and Australia.

Allan taught soapstone carving at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton from 2001 to 2008 to patients undergoing treatment. He has recently been involved with the Arts in Medicine program at the Credit Valley Hospital in Missassauga, ON and has taught soapstone carving on several occasions. He also offers on-site carving at galleries and local events, and weekend carving seminars which are always fun, exciting and booked up quick. For a list of current workshops please click here.

All of Allan's carvings come signed and numbered to confirm that they are hand-made soley by Allan Waidman. Each piece is unique for no pattern is used and where some pieces may be similar, each will vary in size, shape, weight, color, type of stone and finish.
